Taking Your Doubts Captive

How do you take your doubts captive? As I read the title of my devotion this morning, I asked myself this question. The author of the devotion was addressing what happens when we start the process of renewing our minds. We will inevitably mess up and God tells us that its OK when that happens. He knows we are not perfect and He is always there to help us get back on track.
Unfortunately, the devil also knows we are not perfect and he does his very best to remind us of that every step of the way. We can be going along, minding our own business, serving God and doing good and then from nowhere we will have an attack on our mind. Satan will tell us that we are failures, that we are not good enough, that God doesn’t love us.
Thankfully, God’s Word tells us just what we should do in these situations. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to take every thought captive and into obedience with God. So when the devil to lie to you, be bold and tell him to go back to where he came from.
This reminded me of a time during Youth Group just a few weeks ago when we were having a discussion about the self talk that seems to be on a never ending playlist in our heads. I shared with our students that they don’t have to feel weak when these negative thoughts creep in. I told them how powerful it is to use your voice when you are coming against the devil. That it is so much more powerful when you speak aloud that the devil is a liar and needs to be gone and not just think it in your head.
When those doubts come your way, don’t get discouraged. Bring them in line with God’s Word.
It works every time!
